Auto-Loading Pistols

John Moses Browning was an amazing man responsible for the design of many of history's finest weapons. Each design was new fresh ideas, and many of them have been copied throughout the world.

The example at the right is the familliar 1911 45 ACP semi auto pistol. These have just passed their 200th anaversary, and are still favored by many over newer designs.

Replaced by the Beretta 92F in recent years, the call for a return of a more powerful handgun may well bring the 1911 back to millitary service. Lawmen throughout history have gravitated to 40 caliber weapons as man stoppers. Although the Beretta 92F has a greater magazine capacity it is argued that you simply don't need as many hits with a 45. Many 40 caliber weapons hit the scene in recent years to fulfill the need for good stopping power and more magazine capacity. Easily accomodating 3 more rounds in a single stack magazine the 40's (40S&W and 10mm) are doing a fine job in the law enforcement arena.
